Margins Muse | April 2026
From Paramore’s fearless teenage frontwoman to one of modern music’s most emotionally honest voices, Hayley Williams has spent two decades refusing to shrink, sell out, or stay the same. We couldn’t be more thrilled to name her as our very first Margins Muse.

There are certain artists who shape a generation almost by accident. They start by writing songs about their own lives and somehow end up articulating something far bigger.
Hayley Williams is one of them.
As the frontwoman of Paramore, she helped define the sound of the 2000s alternative scene she was barely old enough to vote. Since then, she has spent nearly twenty years evolving in public, experimenting with sound, writing more honestly with each album, and using her voice both on stage and off it.
For her creativity, honesty, and refusal to be boxed in, we are delighted to name Hayley Williams as April’s Margins Muse.
Origins:
Hayley Williams was born in Mississippi in 1988 and moved to Tennessee as a child following her parents’ divorce. The move changed everything. It was there that she met the musicians who would eventually form Paramore while still in her early teens.
Even then, the music industry could see her star potential. Labels were keen to sign her as a solo artist. But Williams pushed back. She wanted to be in a band. She wanted Paramore.
So while she signed a record deal young, she insisted the band move forward together rather than building a career around herself alone. It was a small act of defiance, but an important one. Even at sixteen, she wasn’t interested in shrinking herself or fitting neatly into someone else’s idea of what she should be.
Not long after, Paramore exploded onto the alternative scene.
With flame-bright hair, an electric stage presence, and a voice that could move from a whisper to a scream in seconds, Williams quickly became one of the most recognisable figures in pop-punk.
Evolution:
Paramore’s early years were loud, emotional and hugely influential. Songs like Misery Business and That’s What You Get became defining anthems of the era.
But what makes Hayley Williams’ career remarkable is not just the early success. It’s the evolution.
Paramore’s sound shifted constantly over the years, moving from pop-punk into new wave, indie pop, and something far more introspective. Albums like After Laughter explored anxiety and depression beneath deceptively bright melodies.
Then came her solo work.
In 2020, Williams released Petals for Armor, a record written during a period of personal upheaval that dealt openly with therapy, trauma and healing. It felt less like a rock album and more like someone thinking out loud in music.
A year later she followed with Flowers for Vases / Descansos, a quiet, almost diary-like collection of songs recorded largely at home.
And when she eventually stepped away from the major label system she had been part of since her teens, she embraced a more independent, self-directed approach to releasing music.
It felt like the natural next chapter for an artist who has always valued creative freedom.
Margins Muse:
What makes Hayley Williams a Margins Muse is the way she has allowed herself to evolve whilst always remaining true to herself. To do this in an industry as notoriously demanding as the music business speaks volumes about her character.
She has written openly about mental health, heartbreak and recovery. She has spoken out about social issues, encouraged young fans to engage politically, and used her platform to support causes from racial justice to LGBTQ+ rights.
But perhaps most importantly, she has refused to stay frozen in the version of herself that first became famous. Hayley has shown that growth is not something to fear. In fact, it’s where the most interesting work begins.
Some artists define a moment. Hayley has certainly done that, but she has also defined a journey. From Warped Tour stages to deeply introspective solo records, from teenage rebellion to thoughtful adulthood, her career has unfolded in full view of an audience that has grown up alongside her.
If you’re not that familiar with the absolute style icon that is Hayley, or you haven’t checked in since your teenage Paramore phase, do yourself a favour and watch their performance of All I Wanted at Bonnaroo 2023. Trust us on this one. The voice is stronger than ever. The stage presence effortless. It’s the sound of an artist who has completely grown into herself.
And that is exactly why she feels like the perfect first Margins Muse.
Hayley Williams is the embodiment of authenticity and the power that comes from staying true to yourself. She’s living proof that life doesn’t peak at your first success, or even in your early adulthood. The most interesting chapters often come later.
